Floor pressure mats will detect a person walking over or standing on them. The smaller pressure pads may also be used in the same way or to detect a person sitting in a chair
Many other applications have been found for these floor pressure mats / pads, such as, monitoring the movement of patients, sensors for interactive toys, sensors for interactive multimedia systems, i.e. when a person treads on a floor mat a multimedia presentation is triggered.
